When an organic molecule contains more than one functional group, IUPAC rules assign priority to decide:
1. functional group gives the suffix to the name- principal functional group
2. which ones are written as prefixes- secondary functional group
Only one functional group can be used as a suffix.
Prefixes are arranged in alphabetical order (ignoring di-, tri-).
Double/triple bonds get priority after functional groups.
The highest-priority group must be included in the parent chain.
