Police bodycam footage captures a tense traffic stop that quickly escalates after an officer pulls over a driver for speeding and reckless driving.
The officer observes a gray Toyota Accord traveling approximately 53–57 mph in a 40 mph zone, following another vehicle too closely, and making an abrupt lane change. A records check reveals the vehicle is registered to a driver with a suspended license.
After the vehicle stops in a parking lot, the officer makes contact with the driver, who admits she does not have a driver’s license. During the interaction, the officer detects a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
When the officer informs the driver the vehicle will be impounded, the situation rapidly escalates. The driver becomes irate, refuses commands, and attempts to move back toward the vehicle.
During a search of the vehicle, officers locate a baggie of suspected marijuana inside the center console.
The driver was arrested and charged with multiple offenses including possession of a controlled substance and refusal to submit to arrest.
