How to stamp mandalas in leather

Описание: Quick video on how to stamp, not carve, mandalas in leather using center stamps, border stamps, geometric stamps, veiners and camouflages.

I have seen a few carved mandalas floating around on Pinterest, but here are a few ways to stamp them. Will list tools if anyone's interested. Rock bottom production values!

I realized I didn’t list tools here, which would be convenient. Some of these I inherited (the old McMullen listed below) and some I bought. I got some on clearance, and I have tried to list the tool number, usually Craftool, wherever possible. Plugging “Craftool” and the number into Ebay or Google will help you here. Note older Craftools which do not have letter prefixes, and just have numbers, are often considered to be better made and give crisper impressions, though use what tools you can get.

Roughly, in order:

The “rose” which is a Craftool 3-D stamp, requiring handle, 8655
“Hexagon” K144
Round center E385
Star geometrics G9008 -1 -2 -3

(Note, there are a variety of star-shaped geometric stamps Craftool made. 9009 has a star in the middle instead of dots. The old similarly-shaped tools are G602 and G870. Barry King describes these as “box stamps” and has many more styles and sizes. Other tool makers also make them. When used on their own along a regular grid, their negative space forms circular patterns around the stamp.)

Border tool-- G606.
Veiner-- V407
Camouflage-- Unknown size (sorry, but a C429 will likely do the job)

Large Veiner McMullen. You could substitute a Craftool V423

Other tools mentioned are a sunburst, N300
The design shown at 14:49 which uses K144 as its center also has
Border G603-- small, flower-shaped border
Flower Center-- 503
I believe it also has a D608, which is a discontinued border stamp.
Figure Carving Stamp-- F991 (Though mine is an oddball numbering and came in a “creative” stamping set with a butterfly.) F991 is supposed to be a cluster of leaves at the end of a branch in a pictorial carving of a tree, along with F990, but they make great decorative stamps for mandalas and other such designs.
