जर्मन के महान दार्शनिक, अर्थशास्त्री और वैज्ञानिक समाजवाद का प्रणेता. कार्ल मार्क्स का जन्म त्रेवेस (प्रशा) के एक यहूदी परिवार में 5 मई 1818 को हुआ था. कार्ल मार्क्स का परिवार 1824 में ईसाई धर्म स्वीकार कर लिया था। महान दार्शनिक हीगेल से ये बहुत प्रभावित थे. अपनी शिक्षा को पूर्ण करने के बाद उसी वर्ष 1842 में मार्क्स ने कोलोन से प्रकाशित हो रही "राइनिशे जीतुंग" पत्र में पहले लेखक के रूप में कार्य किया और उसके बाद संपादक उसी पत्र के बने. 1847 में एजेंल्स के साथ मिलकर अंतराष्ट्रीय समाजवाद' का प्रथम घोषणापत्र (कम्युनिस्ट मॉनिफेस्टो) को प्रकाशित किया. मार्च 14, 1883 में कार्ल मार्क्स के जीवन की लीला समाप्त हो गयी।
