The Synesthesia Room (SR) is a purpose-designed multisensory therapeutic environment developed within the Euterpe Method and conceptualized as an active clinical device, rather than a neutral treatment setting.
It integrates real-time personalized sound composition with controlled visual, tactile, proprioceptive, and olfactory stimulation, forming a coherent multisensory framework for clinical music therapy interventions.
From a neuroscientific perspective, the SR functions as a regulated sensory amplifier, supporting multisensory integration and experience-dependent neuroplasticity through the engagement of distributed cortical and subcortical networks, including associative cortices, limbic structures, basal ganglia, thalamus, and cerebellum. These networks are critically involved in sensory integration, emotional regulation, predictive processing, and neurodevelopmental learning.
The SR enables unimodal, multimodal, and cross-modal therapeutic strategies, with continuous modulation of stimulus intensity, spatiality, temporal structure, and sensory congruence. This design allows for individualized clinical adaptation while minimizing the risk of sensory overload, a key consideration in pediatric populations with neurodevelopmental disorders (NDD).
Structurally, the Synesthesia Room is characterized by environmental flexibility and modularity (“mobile architecture”), permitting replication across hospital, outpatient, and home-based contexts while preserving methodological consistency and clinical safety.
This video presents the functional organization of the Synesthesia Room and its clinical rationale within the Euterpe Method, highlighting its role in supporting neurofunctional modulation, affective regulation, and learning processes in pediatric and neurodevelopmental clinical settings.
