I'm Jeffrey Weiss from the preparedness network. To build a successful corporate social responsibility program or volunteer system, you need to have four things. First, a good foundation and organizational structure, then you're great teams and leaders. After that, you must have some creative partners enabling your program to give. Lastly, you will need to have a system that shows appreciation to those who give and help your organizational goals grow. Doesn’t it matter if you are in business or not? You need to show people how much you appreciate them for the work and support they do for you. If you don’t show appreciation, people will notice. If you do, people will notice that even more.
9. Roll Out the Red Carpet
Go above and beyond with your volunteer party by truly catering to the volunteers. Roll out a red carpet, get some bubbly, and treat the volunteers like rock stars. This is a great way to ensure your volunteers feel valued.
10. Family Festival
Volunteering is a big deal. Not only are individuals taking time out of their day to help out, but they are also taking time away from their families. So invite the whole family for a special event, thanking them every step of the way by giving them the royal treatment they deserve!
11. Surprise Party
Surprise parties are fun. One creative way to pull one over on your volunteers is to have them come to a routine volunteer opportunity—perhaps helping serve food at an event. When they arrive, turn the tables and have this event be all about them! Treat them to some great food and company.
12. Host a Car Wash
If you’ve volunteered long enough, you’ve probably washed a car or two. Have your staff break out the hoses and invite your volunteers down for a car wash – on the house!
So you need to show appreciation to three different groups of people. The first group is the volunteers in your corporation or organization who get out there and support your company’s structure. The next group is the leaders and teams that run your volunteer system. They do a lot of work, and you need to show them how much you appreciate them. The last group is the organizations that you volunteer or support. Often times when you show appreciation to them, they will come back at 10 X and show you some appreciation by posting on their social media, websites, or other platforms, giving you much visibility. And also, while you're at it, if you're working at an organization and there's another company alongside you, try showing appreciation to them. This often turns into because I'm great at networking and business opportunities, as you both share a similar interest in giving back.
