web cam not working - video not working teams/zoom - troubleshooting tips

Although my settings are noted above you should still be able to use these troubleshooting steps for any laptop and settings.

1) ensure that video is on in teams or zoom

2) check device manager, camera and display adapters - when you expand the camera by clicking on the drop down arrow it will list the name of your camera use this as reference for further troubleshooting steps, right click on the name of the camera and search automatically for drivers it should state the best drivers for your device are already installed, you may also search for updated drivers on windows update. And you can follow the same steps for the display adapter.

2) check privacy and security settings - camera to ensure that security is not blocking the webcam - Go to settings, privacy and security and camera.

3) go to settings, blue tooth & devices, cameras, HP HD Camera (in my video example) you can click on troubleshoot or go to step 4 as noted below.

4) check to see if your laptop has a slider that closes and opens the webcam (built in web cam cover) if the laptop frame is black and the slider for the web cam cover is black you may not see it right off. Slide your finger above the webcam to check. If it's closed it will show black for my settings the cover slides to the right, if the webcam is open slide to the left and your webcam should display properly.
