Kalesnikoff is a vertically integrated company that manages their own forestlands and their own mill in BC, Canada, producing Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) and Glulam Beams. They provided wood for the new Shortstack Mississippi, middle housing project in Portland, OR. While they are located in Canada, from a bio-regional perspective they are local. Issues such as wildfires and the smoke they produce, disease outbreaks, and pests do not stop at any border. Also, Kalesnikoff is open and transparent about their wood sourcing, and their business is vertically integrated, offering a unique
opportunity for timber traceability and transparency. They willingly provided wood sourcing transparency for the Shortstack project with no direct financial benefit or project requirements. This sort of transparency changes the way builders and placemakers engage with wood markets, and is critical for helping foster a meaningful relationship between our forests and the communities they supply.
