On This Day 1956, Hollywood superstar Marilyn Monroe arrived at London Airport with her third husband, acclaimed playwright Arthur Miller. They had married just two weeks before.
The newlyweds were greeted by fellow stars of the stage and screen Sir Laurence Olivier and his wife, Vivien Leigh.
Monroe and Olivier were due to begin working together on their new film, The Prince and the Showgirl, at Pinewood Studios in August.
Production of The Prince and the Showgirl was famously marked by difficulties between Monroe and Olivier. Monroe found Olivier disrespectful, while Olivier reportedly stated that working with Monroe caused him to “age 15 years”.
