India Today Live News: Lok Sabha News | Rahul Gandhi Book Row | India vs Pakistan Cricket | US News
Former Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Najam Sethi has made a startling claim about the Pakistan government's recent U-turn in the T20 World Cup standoff, insisting that it was the International Cricket Council that stepped back, not Pakistan. The India-Pakistan group match in the 2026 T20 World Cup will now go ahead as scheduled on February 15 in Colombo after Pakistan's government withdrew its boycott call. The decision followed days of negotiations involving the ICC and the Bangladesh Cricket Board, bringing an end to a tense impasse that had cast a shadow over the tournament.
Former Chief of Army Staff General Manoj Mukund Naravane on Tuesday broke his silence on the controversy around his memoir, Four Stars of Destiny, sharing a post by Penguin Random House India. “This is the status,” General (Retd) Naravane wrote on X, endorsing the publisher’s claim that the book was never published and that no authorised copies exist. The statement shared by Naravane was Penguin Random House India’s first official clarification on the issue, which he had earlier reposted on Monday. In it, the publisher said it holds the sole publishing rights to Four Stars of Destiny and asserted that the book has not gone into publication.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Tuesday decided that he will not attend the House until discussion and a decision are taken on the no-confidence motion moved by Opposition MPs seeking his removal, sources told India Today. Although there is no such compulsion under the rules, he has chosen not to attend the House. Even if there are attempts by the government or the opposition to persuade him, he will not attend.
Commenting on the ongoing controversy surrounding General (Retd.) MM Naravane's unpublished book, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said that both the former and publisher, Penguin, could not be lying. "Either Mr Naravane is lying or it is Penguin, which is lying. I don't think the former Army chief will lie," he told reporters outside Parliament. Referring to a 2023 tweet by Naravane wherein the ex-Army chief promoted his new book 'Four Stars of Destiny', Rahul Gandhi said that some of the statements the former made in his book are "inconvenient for the Government of India and the Prime Minister of India".
