This historic station, built in 1888 during British rule, has undergone a transformation costing ₹8 crore. Upgrades include modernised platforms, solar panels, enhanced landscaping, advanced parking facilities, CCTV cameras, accessible infrastructure for the differently-abled, & more.

The renovation reflects the station's evolution from a simple structure to a fully equipped hub along the Mumbai-Howrah route, serving the Bhilai Steel Plant. A unique feature is the display of two engine models symbolizing advancements in railway technology over 136 years. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the revamped station virtually soon.
