In this video I build on the great video For the BK Mazda 3 by MCorving (   • Adding cruise control to a Mazda3 2004-2009  ) to show you how to install factory cruise control in a BL Mazda 3 (2009 to 2013) using FORScan to edit the AS BUILT file.

I noticed that in this video I say 'ODB' quite a few times when I mean 'OBD'. Apologies for that. My normal job is in IT, and ODBC is an IT thing that my brain defaults to. I'm sure you'll work out what is what.

Fun fact for finding a good steering wheel with cruise control buttons: The ER CX7 (CX-7) has the same cruise control buttons as the BL 3 and even though the steering wheel looks the same, it is splined differently to the steering column. So the cruise control buttons can be swapped over, but the steering wheel cannot.

STEERING WHEEL
Your driver's airbag is an explosive device. Disconnect your battery before you think about working on it.

The airbag bolts are 10mm. The steering wheel bolt is 21mm. You will also need a pick to disconnect the airbag connector (the yellow one), and a flat screwdriver or trim tool to disconnect the horn (white connector, black wire).

BRAKE SWITCH
Note that the plug is at the bottom of the blue brake switch, not the top. This will prevent you trying to install it upside down.

For removing and reinstalling the brake switch:
Removing: imagine the switch is at 6 o'clock. Turn it clockwise to 7:30. It will pop out.
Reinstalling: imagine the switch is at 7:30. Turn it anti-clockwise to 6:00. It will lock in.

Note that your line 07 will probably be the same as mine before and after. Your line 25 will only be the same if you have every single option in your car the same as mine, which means lines 1-24 are identical. This is unlikely, so you will have to do the maths yourself! If you fluke the easy way mentioned in video 3 of 4, then just do that.

Otherwise.....

Remember, in HEX, the numbers go 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,A,B,C,D,E,F. It's base 16 instead of the base 10 you are used to.

So, here is the maths from this video:
Line 7 before : FFFF FF41 F11E
Line 7 after : FFFF FF41 F320 (because F1 + 01 = F2 + 01 = F3. 1E + 01 = 1F + 01 = 20).
Line 25 before: FFFF FFFF 1A23
Line 25 after : FFFF FFFF 1821 (because 1A - 01 = 19 - 01 = 18. 23 - 01 = 22 - 01 = 21).

TO TEST YOUR CRUISE CONTROL
To test that your installation is successful, just turn the car on and press the CRUISE ON button. If you can see the word CRUISE in YELLOW lights in your instrument cluster, then you've got it installed correctly.

To activate cruise control, you need to be going at least 30 km/h. Press CRUISE ON, get to the desired speed, and then press SET +. The CRUISE light will now turn GREEN and you are cruising!

The cruise control will deactivate whenever you press the brake pedal, clutch pedal, CANCEL button or OFF button.

While cruising, you can press and hold the SET+ button to accelerate to a greater speed, and then when you let go, that is your new cruise speed. Similarly, if you press and hold the SET - button, you will decelerate, and when you release the button that is your new cruise speed.

CLUTCH SWITCH
The clutch switch does not have to be replaced. The clutch switch is the same in the cars that came out of the factory with cruise control as compared to those without cruise control.
