This is my remix of Avenged Sevenfold's song "This Means War." The minute I heard it on Octane Sirius XM I could hear the Metallica influence on it. Love this song. I have pretty reliable pitch memory as well, so driving home months ago, I remembered thinking, I need to mix this up!
Youtube wouldn't allow the video portion. SO if you'd like to see it complete with the video portion please visit https://vimeo.com/138463702
How could you stop there though? Kid Rock, the amazing local legend who "Put Dee-Troit City back on the map!" paid homage to Sad But True a few years ago. This had to be included.
It took me 3 days to create the audio remix and the video remix but it was worth every second. 3 great songs in one! If there's one thing I can tell you, all 3 bands play in real time, and aren't using computers. Exact metronome is of no use to mix these tracks. I had to go through every bar of music and line things up.
I think the new chorus with Avenged Sevenfold and Metallica playing together sounds amazing.
The video is about war, so I also included footage from Metallica's song "One." Footage of the nurse at the end of the video is to the beat, and in chronological order, telling the story of her mercy on the vegetated soldier from the "One" video.
The beginning into clip of Kid Rock talking has a bell sound in it, which is soon followed up in the audio mix by the bell from "For Whom The Bell Tolls."
Parts of the video, you will notice it actually looks like James Hetfield (Metallica) is singing the Avenged Sevenfold track for a bit!
The two bands guitar solo at the same time, with video footage of both! Not an easy feat.
Many times I have broken out my instruments to make a mix, but this one is all original audio by all three bands. Even the section where it gets quiet while Metallica is singing "I'm your PAAAIIIIN!" while the one footage is playing; is filtered sections of the 3 bands.
The Kid Rock "American Bad Ass" section you will notice sounds much clearer. That is because the original mix you buy on CD sampled Metallica in MONO. I filtered out most of it and re-synced the Metallica sections over-top in stereo. That was a ton of work! No computer metronome, just lining up hundreds of beats and bars and finding where the samples came from in "Sad But True."
I also mixed a small loop at the end of the video, that I think I may use as my video "signature" on future mix pieces since the "Kid" is from Detroit, and I'd love to help put Detroit (Windsor) back on the map even more one day!
This is my second remix since taking a break from music after the Lost Boys Part 2 soundtrack.
My moniker is now DJL33, (DJ Lee, but backwards E's are 3's). Hopefully this is the start of getting back into the music scene after a few years hiatus.
No money is being made by this remix video. No one may sell this, nor use my remix efforts. This is merely my personal promotion, and example of my skills for use in pursuing a resurgent music career, and also in hopes to make connections to work in the music field again! Contact me.
