The contest for Odisha’s fourth Rajya Sabha seat is gaining momentum as political speculation deepens over who will be nominated. The key issue is which party and candidate will secure this additional upper‑house berth. At the centre of discussions is Sasmit Patra, the current Biju Janata Dal Rajya Sabha member, who has filed six nomination forms, raising questions and fresh calculations about his prospects. Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is also engaged in internal deliberations about its choice of candidate for the Rajya Sabha seat. In the midst of these calculations, Bhakta Charan Das, President of the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee, has travelled to New Delhi to meet high command leaders. A list of five names will reportedly be discussed with party chiefs as the final decision draws near.

Political observers describe this as a heated intra‑ and inter‑party battle for one of the most prestigious seats in the Indian Parliament from Odisha, with strategising ongoing across national and state leadership circles.
