Our skin gets its color from a pigment called melanin. When melanin-producing cells in our body become damaged or unhealthy, it affects melanin production and our skin color. In this presentation from March 18, 2024, Anna Cristina (Cristy) Garza-Mayers, MD, PhD, FAAD, discusses common skin pigment conditions in children. She also reviews the available therapeutic approaches to these conditions, including their safety and how well they work. Lastly, Dr. Garza-Mayers reviews the role of multidisciplinary care in caring for children’s skin.
This program is part of the Dermatology Series, a collaboration between the Maxwell & Eleanor Blum Patient and Family Learning Center and the Department of Dermatology at Mass General.
