At the 2026 Africa Prosperity Dialogue, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, Founder and Executive Chairman of the African Prosperity Network, delivered a stark warning about Africa’s economic and social future.
He criticised the practice of African leaders signing treaties and protocols without meaningful follow-through, saying: “Enough is enough. We need action, not just signatures.”
Otchere-Darko highlighted youth unemployment as the continent’s biggest threat, noting that African economies are large enough to create jobs but are currently not built to accommodate frustrated young people. He argued that Africa’s closed borders are restricting progress, especially when Europe and America are raising theirs, urging leaders to open borders to stimulate growth and job creation.
