In this video, we dive deep into how adjusting your tee height can influence your golf ball flight, helping you fix common mistakes like slicing the driver, hitting pop-ups, or struggling with low, weak drives. You’ll also get a simple drill to help you find the perfect tee height for your swing so you can start bombing your drives down the fairway like the pros.

Teeing the golf ball too low with your driver can cause several issues that negatively impact your distance, accuracy, and consistency. Here are five common mistakes that happen when you tee the ball too low:
1. Increased Spin and Loss of Distance
When the ball is teed too low, you are more likely to make contact with the lower part of the clubface, often near the leading edge. This leads to excess backspin, reducing your carry distance and causing your drives to balloon or fall short.
2. Low, Weak Ball Flight (No Carry Distance)
A low tee height encourages a descending angle of attack, which produces low, line-drive shots with minimal carry. Instead of launching the ball high for maximum distance.
3. Topping the Ball or Hitting Pop-Ups
When you tee the ball too low, you may instinctively try to help the ball up by flipping your wrists or lifting your body. This can lead to topped shots or, in some cases, steep swings that cause pop-ups, leaving sky marks on your driver.
4. Increased Risk of Hooks or Slices
A low tee height often promotes a steep or over-the-top swing path, which can exaggerate spin. This results in excessive hooks (if the face is closed) or big slices (if the face is open).
5. Poor Contact and Reduced Smash Factor
A low tee height increases the chance of hitting the clubface too low, leading to weak strikes with lower ball speed, ultimately robbing you of both distance and accuracy.
