Releasing this today to mark the 21st anniversary of its original 2004 launch, I am diving into a SEALED piece of physical media history: the 2004 Japanese First Press Collector's Edition of Hideaki Anno's live-action Cutie Honey*. While many are familiar with Anno’s work on *Evangelion or the Shin series, this specific 2004 box set is a time capsule of his transition into live-action filmmaking.
This set was a limited First Press release and has become increasingly difficult to find in complete condition. I take a close look at the two exclusive Bandai figures supervised by Anno himself and flip through the rare storyboard books illustrated by industry legends Shinji Higuchi and Masayuki.
