So the Lord gave Israel all the land he had sworn to give their ancestors, and they took possession of it and settled there. The Lord gave them rest on every side... Not one of all the Lord’s good promises to Israel failed; every one was fulfilled.
Joshua 21:43-45 (NIV)
JOSHUA’S FINAL WORDS TO ISRAEL...
The years passed, and the Lord had given the people of Israel rest from all their enemies. Joshua, who was now very old, called together all the elders, leaders, judges, and officers of Israel. He said to them, “I am now a very old man. You have seen everything the Lord your God has done for you during my lifetime. The Lord your God has fought for you against your enemies. I have allotted to you as your homeland all the land of the nations yet unconquered, as well as the land of those we have already conquered... This land will be yours, for the Lord your God will himself drive out all the people living there now. You will take possession of their land, just as the Lord your God promised you.” Joshua 23:1-5 (NLT)
Then Joshua summoned all the tribes of Israel to Shechem, including their elders, leaders, judges, and officers. So they came and presented themselves to God...
When you crossed the Jordan River and came to Jericho, the men of Jericho fought against you, as did the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Girgashites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites. But I gave you victory over them. And I sent terror ahead of you to drive out the two kings of the Amorites. It was not your swords or bows that brought you victory. I gave you land you had not worked on, and I gave you towns you did not build—the towns where you are now living. I gave you vineyards and olive groves for food, though you did not plant them.
So fear the Lord and serve him wholeheartedly. Put away forever the idols your ancestors worshiped when they lived beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt. Serve the Lord alone. But if you refuse to serve the Lord, then choose today whom you will serve... But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord. Joshua 24:1; 11-15 (NLT)
1. RECEIVE WHAT GOD HAS ALREADY GIVEN YOU.
We entered the land you sent us to explore, and it is indeed a bountiful country—a land flowing with milk and honey. Here is the kind of fruit it produces. But the people living there are powerful, and their towns are large and fortified. We even saw giants there...
But Caleb tried to quiet the people as they stood before Moses. “Let’s go at once to take the land,” he said. “We can certainly conquer it!”
But the other men who had explored the land with him disagreed. “We can’t go up against them! They are stronger than we are!” Numbers 13:27-31 (NLT)
But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins...
1 John 1:9 (NLT)
He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3 (NIV)
For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength. Philippians 4:13 (NLT)
2. REMOVE ANY WALLS THAT REMAIN.
3. RESOLVE YOUR IDENTITY BEFORE YOUR IDENTITY IS QUESTIONED.
Her parents were overwhelmed... Luke 8:56 (NLT)
...But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord. Joshua 24:15 (NLT)
