Temperatures in Beijing soared to a scorching 40 degrees Celsius (104°F) on July 6, 2023, prompting authorities to issue a red alert for high temperatures. People in the Chinese capital used umbrellas, sun hats, and anti-UV jackets to try and protect themselves from the sun. Weather forecasters predicted temperatures would continue to rise in Beijing over the coming days.
