How to Run Faster- A Drill to Improve Arm Swing

Описание: Coach, the arm swing is something that we will be focus on every day this fall & winter. You would think it is as easy as "swinging" the arms, but look at 99.99% of human beings who run?

The truth is that the arm swing comes from the SHOULDERs,
and your ability to swing them [ faster ] comes from the CORE.
The easiest way to improve your arm siwing.... is to practice arm swings...
Just like the easiest way to improve your sprinting.. is to sprint
So here is a very simple and very effective drill that you should get in the habit of performing daily.

1. Brace the abs
2. Ensure the back is in good posture
3. Slight forward lean

Now from this position, simply place your arms at-or around 90-degrees.
When you swing the arm BACK, the cue is
-Allow the ELBOW to hit back as far as possible

On the front-side of the swing, the cue is
-Keep the hand close to the check (it should not be way out in front of your face, but rather closer to your front deltoid - shoulder)

Now, at first, you should try to EXAGGERATE the arm swing.
Make them BIG and Powerful, but do [ not ] try to move them fast.... yet.
First work to develop a [ rhythm ].

Are they swinging in balance?
Does the torso remain stable? (or 98% stable)
Do the hands remain open & relaxed?

Once they display good rhythm with the arm swing,
you can work to incrementally increase the speed at which you swing them.

But ONLY if you can maintain the good position & posture, most importantly a stable core to swing from.

This drill is so very simple, that most athletes never perform it.

But if you do?
Real-life improvements in your sprinting,
in as little as a few sessions.
