• “I just need any job right now.”
➡️ This sounds desperate and gives the impression you’ll take any position, not that you’re genuinely interested in their unit or organization. Interviewers want to know you’re intentional about where you want to work.
• “I can’t think of a weakness.”
➡️ Everyone has growth areas — saying you don’t makes you seem unaware or defensive. Instead, share something real you’ve improved on to show self-awareness and willingness to grow.
• “I didn’t like my last manager/coworkers.”
➡️ Speaking negatively about past workplaces raises red flags. Even if it’s true, focus on what you learned or what kind of environment helps you thrive.
• “I’m only doing this for the experience.”
➡️ This suggests you’re already planning to leave. Employers invest heavily in onboarding and want to know you’re interested in being part of their team, not just checking a box.
• “I’m just waiting to get into another specialty.”
➡️ Similar issue — it signals you’re not committed long term. Instead, express excitement for what you’ll learn in this role and how it aligns with your professional goals.
• “What’s the pay?”
➡️ Salary questions are totally valid — just save them for the recruiter or after an offer. Asking too early in the process can make it seem like that’s your only motivation.
• “I don’t handle stress well.”
➡️ Nursing is a high-stress profession. This response might make interviewers question your ability to handle challenges. Instead, share healthy coping or time-management strategies you use.

💡 Pro tip: Interviewers aren’t looking for perfection — they’re looking for professionalism, self-awareness, and teachability.
