ZEON elastomers are put through a strenuous battery of physical testing at our R&D facility. One of these tests is called the Physical Immersion test. Zeon R&D Technicians cut small sample slabs of the elastomer compound and place the samples in large test tubes. The samples are documented and then immersed in a select fluid (ex. motor oil, lubricants, corrosives, etc.) After tightly sealing the tubes, the technicians place the samples in in an Immersion Block, subjecting the samples to high temperatures for a prolonged period of time. This allows the technicians to document important product characteristics such as volume swell and long term resistance to heat and fluids. When the time has expired, the technicians are able to remove the samples and subject them to other rigorous testing such as tensile strength, modulus, and elongation.
