In 1997, when the iconic film L.A. Confidential, opened in movie theaters nationwide, it became an immediate box office success and critical darling. Some critics even called it the perfect motion picture – the highest praise possible for its director, Curtis Hanson. In his lifetime, Hanson directed 17 projects, - some in television, and most in the movies. In addition to L. A. Confidential, he is also known for the 1992 film The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, which made Rebecca De Mornay a star. He was also able to coax a surprisingly complex and honest performance out of rap star Eminem in the film 8 Mile, released in 2002. A Reel Point of View will take a look at the work of Curtis Hanson, who was not only known for directing, but also worked as a writer and photographer. With less than 20 directing credits, he still managed to be nominated for an Oscar for best director, and best picture; and finally wining an Oscar for best adapted screenplay.
