Recorded direct to 2 track. No mixing or overdubs. Guitar, Trumpet, Bass, and Drums.
I can't remember the name of the engineer/studio owner.. who was amazing. Especially considering no one knew what was going to happen musically or dynamically.
Trumpet player extraordinaire Larry Williams used to organize gigs under the name LAQT (Los Angeles Quartet) We didn't play tunes. We would show up to a gig, (or in this case a recording studio) and make up the music from nothing. It was challenging, but always fun.
This session which lasted the better part of an afternoon, included Derek Frank, a fantastic bass player who has toured with some of the biggest names in music. He was key on this day imo. His catchy and groovy bass lines laid the ground work for the rest of us. I had worked with Jeff Miley a lot. A very Gifted guitarist and great hang. Larry Williams was always in the horn section of my corporate bands, and had the concept for this free jazz project ..
obviously inspired by Miles Davis' Bitches Brew era. The photo was taken after we finished recording and is the only one I have of us.
I haven't listened to these recordings in over 20 years. If you like my posts please 'Like, Comment, Subscribe, and Share'
Drummers; please check out the courses here. I am uploading all 300+ drum lesson videos from my online school for you, free. I closed The Drum School @frankbriggs.com in 2020 when I retired, and figure some people might benefit from the material.
Happy Holidays!
