Kayaking from Whitby Marina (parking in the Marina Back Car Park), heading down the River Esk, under the Whitby Bridge and passing the Whitby Harbour Lighthouses. We then cut back and kayaked through the gap between the Harbour walls and the Jetty. With a 0.6-0.8m swell and a 6 second period it didn't really give much opportunity for rock hopping - especially with all of the rock shelves along this section of coastline that threw up the odd large wave. Passing Saltwick Nab and Salwick Bay we headed along the coastline round to Robin Hood's Bay where we stopped for some lunch.
On the way back to Whitby we decided to head out to the Cardinal Marker outside the Harbour. Very surprised as we got nearer to hear a bell ringing as it moved around in the waves. The things seem so small when you look at them from a distance but they are quite large when up close to them.
From there we headed back through the harbour walls and up the River Esk back to the marina.
