How safe do tourists feel in Meghalaya?

On May 23 a newlywed couple from Indore disappeared while visiting Sohra (Cherrapunjee) in Meghalaya. Their incident raised alarm across social media, with many questioning the safety of tourists in the state. EastMojo spoke to visitors at Sohra to understand how they feel about safety, local hospitality, and facilities. While many said that they remain cautious there were others who praised the welcoming nature of locals and the region’s natural beauty. Some also pointed out that facilities that need to intervention of the government.

Meanwhile, authorities have deployed search teams and used drones to locate the missing woman named Sonam Raghuvanshi however the team is yet to get any breakthrough. Investigators are also examining CCTV footage, a stained raincoat, and a machete believed to have been used in her husrband Raja Raghuvanshi’s alleged murder.
