ITALY: MILLE MIGLIA VINTAGE CAR RACE

Front runners in the Italian Mille Miglia race have been arriving in Rome after completing the grueling trip from Brescia.

Hundreds, of mainly vintage cars, taking part in the 1-thousand mile rally will now race back to Brescia to try take the chequered flag.

It's the 13th edition of the Mille Miglia, the epic 1-thousand mile motor race which brings together vintage cars and manufacturer's prototypes from the 1920's to the present.

Three-hundred and forty cars from 26 different countries are participating.

The race winds through picturesque towns and little villages, from Brescia to Ferrara, Rome to Bologna and then back to Brescia for the finish on the fourth day.

Points are obtained through design, construction and of course, finishing the race. This way the oldest and most sporty car will get the most points.

The incentive makes the rally an antique car show on wheels.

Famous Italian celebrities and old race car drivers are taking part to the rally. Among them famous ski champion Alberto Tomba. Unfortunately he had a problem at the engine and did not make it to Rome.
