I hope it’s okay to share my story here. This page has become a comforting space for me as an OFW (Overseas Filipino Worker), and today, I felt the need to write. Not all of us are living the success stories people often hear about.

I arrived in Dubai three years ago, full of hope and dreams. Like many, I wanted to provide my family a better life, imagining I could save and eventually build a future back home. The reality, though, has been different. The job I found as a sales assistant is challenging. My salary barely covers rent in a shared bedspace, daily expenses, and remittances to my family. Saving feels like a distant goal. The work itself isn’t easy, with long shifts and high expectations, but through it, I’ve grown more resilient and adaptable.

On top of the job, living far from my family takes an emotional toll. Weekends often feel lonely, and while I’m lucky to have friends here, it’s not the same as being with loved ones. Sometimes, social media makes it harder—I catch myself comparing my life to others who seem more successful. My family back home doesn’t fully see the struggles either, which makes me feel isolated at times.

Still, what keeps me going is my purpose. My family’s future drives me forward, even on difficult days. Their belief in me gives me strength, and I find comfort in small wins, like a kind word, a good day at work, or reaching another month closer to my goals.

To my fellow OFWs in Dubai, know that you’re not alone. Many of us are quietly working through similar struggles. To those considering working abroad, I hope this gives you a clearer picture. Life here is full of sacrifices and lessons, but it also teaches us to endure. Every step, no matter how small, brings us closer to a brighter future.
