This was only the second time we had ever met! We first met at a variety show / fundraiser in June 2017, a month earlier than this. I was backstage about to go on when Doris appeared, politely introduced herself, and asked if I would like to improvise something while she recited her poem about jazz "horn players," to give her story some musical context... I only had a minute or so left, but feeling intrigued, I asked for a few example lines... Doris won me over in a few seconds. I could feel her confidence, reverence for jazz in her story, beat, phrasing.... Challenge accepted!

What a thrill it was. With no rehearsal, no band and no real familiarity between us, it was natural, artistic and a total blast. I thrust my business card into her hands after we finished and asked if we could do it again soon, over at my house... She smiled and curiously listened as I explained I was making these "duet videos" and...well, here it is!

Doris was so cool... Mind you, we started off as strangers and she came over to my house here, hardly knowing me, just to do this...on faith. And to keep it artistically in the same spirit, I only asked her for some lines once again, just to grab the beat and vibe before we recorded this, just as you see it here.
