🌶️ Homemade Sambar Powder Recipe
Ingredients:
Toor dal – 1/2 cup
Chana dal – 1/4 cup
Urad dal – 2 tbsp
Raw rice – 2 tbsp
Coriander seeds – 1/2 cup
Kashmiri dry red chillies – 8 to 10
Black pepper – 1 tbsp
Fenugreek seeds – 1 tsp
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
Curry leaves – 1 handful
Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
Salt – 1 tsp (optional)
Small piece of tamarind – 1 tbsp size
Oil – 2 tbsp (for tempering)
Preparation Method:
Step 1:
Heat a pan on medium flame.
Add toor dal, chana dal, urad dal, and rice.
Dry roast until golden brown.
Remove and keep aside.
Step 2:
In the same pan, roast coriander seeds until aromatic.
Step 3:
Add Kashmiri dry red chillies and curry leaves.
Roast until crisp.
Step 4:
Add black pepper, fenugreek seeds, and mustard seeds.
Roast for 1–2 minutes on low flame. Do not burn.
Step 5:
Add a small piece of tamarind and heat lightly for 30 seconds.
Step 6:
Turn off the flame and let all roasted ingredients cool completely.
Step 7:
Transfer everything to a mixer jar.
Grind into a fine powder.
Step 8:
Add turmeric powder and salt. Mix well.
Step 9 (Tempering for extra flavor):
Heat 2 tbsp oil in a pan.
Add mustard seeds, curry leaves, and dry red chillies.
Let them splutter.
Step 10:
Add the prepared sambar powder to the pan.
Mix well on low flame for 1–2 minutes.
Step 11:
Turn off the flame and let it cool completely.
Store in an airtight container.
