Saudi Arabia sentences schoolgirl to 18 years in jail over tweets

Описание: The Saudi Specialised Criminal Court has sentenced 18-year-old Manal al-Gafiri to 18 years in jail and a travel ban for tweeting in support of political prisoners in the kingdom, Alqst rights group has reported. The secondary schoolgirl was only 17 at the time of her arrest.

Al-Gafiri's sentencing is just one of many cases that showcase the Saudi authorities' extreme sentences handed to its citizens over cyber activism and the use of social media for criticising the government under the de-facto leadership of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
