Couva is very close to the Point Lisas Industrial estate and was once the home of Caroni Sugar workers. It is the birth place of the political party known as the UNC or United National Congress. Like most Southerners, the people of Couva are friendly and welcoming. We will explore what Couva looks like today.

This is a walk through covering the major streets like the Southern Main Rd. and Couva Main Rd. that are the most traversed when visiting Couva. Like all videos in JB's Man Cave, I keep things real by showing you raw footage so you can pick up the details. This is not a fanciful tourist video although tourists can use it to gauge what the streets and people are like in Couva.

A bit of history and geography: According to old British maps, Couva used to have a river called, "Rio de Couva" or simply "Couva River". However, the exact location of this river is not known. Couva was largely a sugarcane estate until the advent of energy and chemical plants were established in Point Lisas. This seemingly led to a the closure of Caroni (1975) Ltd by previous governments who claimed it was hemorrhaging too much cash.

The main areas near to or within Couva are; downtown Couva or Couva proper, which I will cover in this video. However, there is also Point Lisas, California, Balmain, Preysal, Mc Bean, Orange Valley, St. Andrew, Exchange, Camden, Roystonia, Couva Village Plaza, Couva North Gardens, Perseverance, Sevilla, Brechin Castle, Indian Trail, Issac Settlement, Calcutta Settlement, Union Village, Basta Hall, Felicity Hall, Esperanza, Carolina, Milton, Dow Village, Savonetta, Shashamane, Phoenix Park, and Windsor Park which can be seen in other videos.
