Today was meant to be a day hike to the summit of Ben Nevis in the Richmond Ranges, Nelson, NZ with Hugo (GSP) and Ziggy (Koolie), but old Ben had other ideas.
We ran out of water at 1200-1400m and made the call. It’s not always about the getting to the peak, sometimes it’s just about getting the dogs out in the mountains, losing a bit of sweat, listening to the bush, enjoying the views, getting fitter and learning from my mistakes.
DOC Permits for the dogs required and carried for this hike.
Water: Lesson learned, the track up Ben Nevis has no water along it to fill up. Pack more than you think.
