Canada hits back at Trump with retaliatory tariffs

Описание: Canada has announced retaliatory tariffs against the US after Donald Trump imposed his own sweeping tariffs over the weekend.

The “dollar for dollar” counter-tariffs affect more than 700 American products, which the Canadian government said would come into force on 8 September.

Ever since Donald Trump declared that Canada should be America's 51st state, Canadians have been weary of their giant southerly neighbour. But the trade war that was threatened as background music never really materialised, until talks collapsed over the weekend

Since then, things have spiralled from bad to worse.

Prime Minister Mark Carney who has made a political career out of standing up to Trump has not flinched, enjoying widespread support in Canada.

And President Trump said Tuesday Lake Ontario should be renamed Lake America. This, as he threatened another trade war with China for buying Iranian oil.

But with condemnation of President Trump coming from across Canada's political spectrum, could this just be the start?
