City of Chandler’s water conservation team demonstrates how to find out if your pool has a leak. The bucket test is an easy way to facilitate pool leak detection. You will need a bucket and something to weigh it down. Place the bucket on the first step of your pool and make sure the water in the bucket is the same level as the water in the pool. Leave the bucket in place for a few days.
If the bucket has more water than the pool, you know you have a leak in the pool. Turn the pool pump off, then repeat the test. If the water in the pool is the same as the water in the bucket, there is a problem with the pump equipment.
If the pool’s water level is lower than the bucket, that indicates a leak in the pool itself. Call a pool professional for assistance.
