BioMed Central is an STM (Science, Technology and Medicine) publisher of over 290 peer-reviewed open access journals. We launched our first journals in 2000 making us the first commercial open access publisher in a time when open access was still a new idea and subscription-based science publishing was the norm. This is our open access story.
