"The reason to do a bronchoscopy, the reason why we have to put a small camera into your nose, through the throat, to the lungs, basically, there are two reasons.

Number one is for diagnostic reasons, means that we need to find out what is the actual cause of the lung infection.

Could this be tuberculosis? Could this be bacteria? Could this be fungus? Could this be viruses or could this be cancer that's actually going on.

So diagnostic reason means that we need to find out what is the cause of the current lung issue.

The second reason why we need to do bronchoscopy is that we need to treat the lung problem.

For example, some patient who have been admitted to ICU, sometime their lungs are not really expanding well. A lot of mucus plug, a lot of phlegm tend to be trapped within the airway, causing the lungs to collapse and not expanding well, so this is also one of the indication why we need to do the bronchoscopy so that we can wash the airway passage, yeah, wash the lung area so we can remove whatever mucus plug that's actually stuck within the lungs and within the airway.

So the reason that we need to bronchoscopy is number one, diagnostic to find out the cause. Yeah. Number two is therapeutic to treat the lung problem."
