This Hike is No Joke! Heat Exhaustion & Dehydration in Peek-a-Boo & Spooky Canyons S4:E14

Описание: In this video, we continue our RV Road trip across America with a stop in Escalante Utah. We make one of our favorite scenic drives as we traverse Dixie National Forest and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. This roadway is not for the timid as it weaves through epic canyons and straddles steep ridges. No shoulders or guardrails here. Then we embark on an amazing and challenging hike through Peekaboo & Spooky Canyons. We did not heed the warnings about the difficulty of this trail and we almost paid the ultimate price. Before it was over we experienced exhaustion, dehydration and were on the verge of heat stroke. Come along with us as we discover the beauty and challenges of this amazing area.

The drive through Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument is one that should be on everyone's bucket list. Here you are driving through a narrow canyon one moment, and then traversing the top of a narrow ridge the next. It is one of our favorite scenic drives and is not to be missed. We soon arrive in the town of Escalante and make camp at Petrified Forest State Park. We feel this is the most beautiful and inexpensive RVing option in the area if boondocking is not your thing.

The next day we drive south into the desert to a remote trail that takes hikers down into two slot canyons. The trail into Peek-a-Boo and Spooky Canyons is very beautiful, but you need to make sure you heed the warnings and bring more water than you think you will need. We had no idea how challenging the trail would be, and we were woefully under-prepared. By the time we began our return trip to the trailhead we were suffering from exhaustion, dehydration and were on the verge of heat stroke. It is an exhilarating hike into the canyons among some unbelievable natural wonders, but hikers need to respect the challenges and embark prepared.

Escalante is the latest stop in our exploration of America in our RV that will take us from coast to coast.
