I’ll demo repotting using an Oyama self-watering pot. The Oyama pot uses perlite in the base to wick water up from the reservoir below. This is similar to “Texas style” potting in which a layer of perlite is used in the bottom of a pot to wick up the water to the mix when bottom watering. The perlite improves aeration while providing a continuous moisture supply to the roots. Oyama planters are an alternative to wick watering.
In the next video we’ll discuss using Optimara’s Water Maid, another self-watering system that uses a capillary mat to provide water to the roots.
