Fixing the boot/tailgate switch on the Mini Cooper S Hatchback (R56) without wrecking rubber cover

Описание: In this episode we take a break from the Midget whilst we wait for new parts to arrive.
So, with that in mind, we take the opportunity to repair the switch that operates the boot / trunk / tailgate release on the 2011 Mini Cooper S (R56) Hatchback (Gen 2).
The boot release panel also looks to be the same on the R57 (Convertible), R58 (Coupe) & R59 (Roadster) Gen 2 cars produced between 2007 and 2014. Guidance on the Mini models can be found here: https://www.lohen.co.uk/blog/know-you...
The switch is a tiny microswitch mounted on a printed circuit board and, in time, this switch stops working; seemingly falling apart. A new switch can only be obtained from the manufacturer by purchasing the entire boot handle and number plate light housing. This unit retails around £80 - £100 on-line (e.g. eBay) and probably more expensive if purchased directly from BMW/Mini.

The postage cost more than the switches and as I got the smallest quantity of ten, I now have nine spare switches as I’m not sure how long these can be expected to last.
Our method is more involved, in that it involves removing the welded plastic electrical compartment of the tailgate unit but looks completely stock and significantly cheaper than buying a new or used replacement that could have the same problems.
