ORATIO MEA — My Prayer in Light
A sacred meditation inspired by Gregorian ambience, Latin prayer, and the quiet glow of spiritual light.
May this music accompany your moments of reflection, study, healing, and silent prayer.
LATIN TEXTS & ENGLISH TRANSLATIONS
1. CANTUS XV-1 — Psalmus 141(140)
Corripiet me iustus in misericordia, et increpabit me; oleum autem peccatoris non impinguet caput meum.
(English) Lord, I call upon you; hasten to me! Give ear to my voice when I call to you! Let my prayer be counted as incense before you, and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice! Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips! Do not let my heart incline to any evil, to busy myself with wicked deeds in company with men who work iniquity. Let a righteous man strike me in kindness and reprove me; let not the oil of the wicked adorn my head.
2. CANTUS XV-2 — Psalmus 142(141)
In via hac, qua ambulabam, absconderunt laqueum mihi.
(English) I cried unto the Lord with my voice: yea, even unto the Lord did I make my supplication. I poured out my complaints before him: and shewed him of my trouble. When my spirit was in heaviness, thou knewest my path. In the way wherein I walked have they privily laid a snare for me. I looked also upon my right hand, and saw there was no man that would know me. I had no place to flee unto, and no man cared for my soul. I cried unto thee, O Lord, and said: Thou art my hope, and my portion in the land of the living.
3. CANTUS XV-3 — Psalmus 143(142)
(Latin) Domine, exaudi orationem meam, auribus percipe obsecrationem meam in veritate tua; exaudi me in tua iustitia. Memor fui dierum antiquorum; meditatus sum in omnibus operibus tuis. Expandi manus meas ad te; anima mea sicut terra sine aqua tibi. Velociter exaudi me, Domine; defecit spiritus meus.
(English) Hear my prayer, O Lord, and consider my desire; hearken unto me for thy truth and righteousness' sake. And enter not into judgment with thy servant; for in thy sight shall no man living be justified. For the enemy hath persecuted my soul; he hath smitten my life down to the ground. I remember the time past; I muse upon all thy works. I stretch forth my hands unto thee; my soul gaspeth unto thee as a thirsty land. Hear me, O Lord, and that soon, for my spirit waxeth faint.
4. CANTUS XV-4 — Psalmus 130(129)
(Latin) De profundis clamavi ad te, Domine; Domine, exaudi vocem meam. Fiant aures tuae intendentes in vocem deprecationis meae. Sustinuit anima mea in verbo eius; speravit anima mea in Domino. A custodia matutina usque ad noctem, speret Israel in Domino.
(English) Out of the depths I cry to You, O Lord; Lord, hear my voice. Let Your ears be attentive to my voice in supplication. If You, O Lord, mark iniquities, Lord, who can stand? But with You is forgiveness, that You may be revered. I trust in the Lord; my soul trusts in His word. My soul waits for the Lord more than sentinels wait for the dawn. For with the Lord is kindness and with Him is plenteous redemption.
