In this episode of the Plant, Pests, and Pathogens webinar series, Matt Bertone and Mike Munster of the NC State Extension Plant Disease and Insect Clinic begin by sharing pictures of recent samples sent into the clinic and challenging viewers with their game "Critter or Not?", a fun way to sharpen diagnostic skills.
25:09 - This month's webinar focuses on pest and disease issues associated with Azalea species. Mike begins the discussion of pathogens that commonly affect Azalea spp. including Phytophthora root rot (P. cinnamomi), stunt nematodes (Tylenchorhynchus spp.), Phomopsis sp. fungus (dieback, tip blight, canker) and Exobasidium leaf gall (E. vaccinii fungus).
42:24 Matt reviews pests that most commonly affect Azalea spp. including Azalea lace bugs (Stephanitis pyrioides), Azalea prominent caterpillars (Datana major), Azalea leafminer (Caloptilla azaleella), Azalea stem borer (Oberea myops), Azalea bark/felt scale (Acanthococcus azaleae), armored scales and aphids.
