Описание: The Sustenpass feels like a road designed for pure riding — wide curves, clean lines, glaciers rising in the distance. But its history is rooted in strategy, not scenery.

First documented in the early 17th century as a simple mule track, the pass was never a major trade route. Instead, it gained military relevance during religious conflicts. The Meienschanze, built in 1618, turned the area into a defensive stronghold.

In the late 18th century, French troops used the pass to outmaneuver Austrian and Russian forces. Later, when Napoleon cut off key trade routes elsewhere, Bern and Uri pushed to turn the old path into a proper road. Progress was slow. Only in the mid-20th century, between 1938 and 1946, was the modern pass road completed — officially dedicated to peace during troubled times.

Today, the Sustenpass is one of Switzerland’s most iconic alpine crossings. Riding it means moving through layers of history — on a road that now stands for freedom instead of defense.
