Thinness does not mean beauty and, above all, beauty does not mean happiness: this was said on the stage of Think.her, the TEDxTorino event dedicated to the voice and ideas of women, by Laura Brioschi, curvy model, influencer and entrepreneur.
How do you learn to accept yourself physically?
In this talk, Laura Brioschi tells us about her very personal journey towards serenity.
A path that does not so much imply losing weight or resigning oneself to keeping it, as acquiring awareness.
In fact, our weight does not determine our value, nor can we link our idea of happiness to it: yet we are building an exclusive society, to which we can only gain access through increasingly narrow doors, which prefers to promote diets of all kinds rather than spread a food culture and emotional education.
So the idea of thinness at all costs has become a trap laid in the path of increasingly young girls and boys, for whom phenomena such as fatphobia, diet culture and body shaming are part of everyday life.
Only self-awareness can lead to acceptance and - why not - love. Curvy model since 2009, she opened her blog in 2014 and from there she landed on Instagram, where her community grew fast.
She has a background of Binge Eating and Bulimia.
In February 2018 she started a non-profit association with her partner Paolo Patria: Body Positive Catwalk, founded to break down prejudices.
In October 2019, 300 people took part in the "SPOGLIATI DAI PREGIUDIZI" (Strip away from prejudice) parade in Piazza Duomo in Milan.
In May 2018 she released her first bikini line for shapely girls as an entrepreneur, to date she has expanded the fit to all sizes and physicalities to make a concrete contribution to INCLUSIVITY
In July she invited her girls to take part in the video clip of her song "soy curvy".
In 2017 she co-presented the program "The beauty of curves" on national tv and today she is guest of many tv interviews and programmes.
At the beginning of October Laura published her first book with DeAgostini. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
