This is one of the most underrated but powerful JEE Advanced 2024 Physics questions — 82% aspirants didn’t even attempt it. In this video, Nishant Jindal and Ninja Sir break it down step-by-step and show how to solve it using nothing more than pure NCERT concepts.
The question involves a double-lens arrangement: a plano-convex lens formed at the bottom of a beaker + a liquid lens above it + the bottom surface silvered to act as a mirror. The challenge is to find for which values of n (refractive index) and h (height) the final image forms exactly at the object itself.
Most students get stuck because there are five optical events (refraction + reflection + refraction + reflection + refraction). But Ninja Sir explains the smartest method:
• Combine both lenses into a single equivalent lens
• Use the lens maker formula efficiently
• Treat the plano surface as R = ∞, simplifying 1/R
• Apply the condition 1/f_equivalent = 1/h for retracing rays
• Check options quickly using the relation 1.6 – n = 9/h
Together, Nishant and Ninja Sir test each option, verify which values satisfy the equation, and finally conclude that options A and B are correct.
This challenge proves that even an intimidating JEE Advanced question becomes easy if you understand:
– Equivalent focal length
– Reversibility of light
– Plano-convex lens behaviour
– N1 – N2 / R simplification
– Basic NCERT formulas
No exotic tricks. No high-level physics.
Just clear logic + NCRT + lens maker formula.
If you’re preparing for JEE Advanced 2025 or 2026, this is the exact thinking process you must develop.
