Alfred Tries To Play: Asterix and the Great Rescue (Sega Mega Drive)

Описание: To celebrate the recent arrival of Asterix & Obelix: The Big Fight on Netflix (I mentioned this when I uploaded my video of the Asterix SNES game a few years ago (   • Alfred Tries To Play: Asterix (SNES)  ), took it's time getting here), the time is ripe to play another Asterix game.

Like the SNES game, it's another platformer, though this time you have the choice of playing as either Asterix or Obelix (you can select your character before each level).

You can punch enemies (complete with trademark 'PAF!' effect) and use items to help get through each stage, which often contains a few puzzles.

It's a decent effort and the graphics and music are very good, though the gameplay could use some polishing. Asterix's punch has a ridiculously short range and attempting to attack an enemy from behind is more likely to lead to you taking damage, so it's best to wait till they're at a standstill or moving towards you. The collision detection is also suspect.

Nevertheless, Asterix and the Great Rescue is still a satisfactory enough effort that I can't find too much that is wrong with it, though if you're not an Asterix fan you can safely avoid this.
