Hi, I’m Heather from POS Nation!

Today we’re going to talk about scales.


There are three primary types of scales used with POS systems: barcode printing scales, in-counter scanner scales, and countertop scales.

Barcode printing scales are what you may see in the deli section of your local grocery store.

Product is placed on the scale, weighed, and the scale prints a barcoded label that identifies the price by weight.

In-counter scanner scales are also typically used at grocery stores to check out customers.

Their bi-optic technology makes it easy to read barcodes at almost any angle.

Then, on the same surface, produce can be weighed, priced, and automatically added to the transaction.

Countertop scales are the most basic, often used at markets, frozen yogurt shops, and any establishment selling items by weight.

These are typically used with a limited volume of barcoded items, and the weight and price are calculated on the POS system.
