I stayed at the OYO Metropolitan Hotel (also known as the OYO Flagship Hotel) in Sheffield in May 2023. Two of us stayed for one night on a bed and breakfast basis, which cost a total of £53.84, an absolute bargain for Sheffield city centre. The hotel is equidistant between Sheffield Railway Station and Kelham Island. The city centre shops are a 10-15 minute walk away.

The hotel looks reasonable from the outside, although there are some evident signs of damage to the building, there is also a small disabled car park near the entrance.

Upon arrival at the hotel, I had quite a negative impression, the reception was unstaffed with a long queue and all of the reception and lobby looked a little tired and like it needed some refurbishment.

The lift to my room on the 8th floor was large and clean. The room I had (812) was a Business Room, this was unexpected and it was a very large and a very good quality room with a super king-sized bed, wardrobe, drawers, TV, standing fan (there was no air-conditioning), dressing table, desk chair and comfy chair. The view was a nice one over the River Don. I was so surprised by how good the room was after seeing the downstairs reception and wondered if the hotel was indeed going through a refurb.

Breakfast is served in a first floor restaurant, it was a basic hot and cold buffet and was very good, I certainly enjoyed it.

All in all, for a hotel that is walking distance to Sheffield city centre, Sheffield Railway Station and Kelham Island, this turned out to be good choice and I would certainly stay here again in future.
