Tibetans in Amdo, Tibet are unhappy with His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and expressed their dissatisfaction by throwing a statue of the 14th Dalai Lama into a local river.
The Tibetans say that the Dalai Lama's policies always change and they cannot believe in him. Regionalism is extremely strong in Tibet, and Amdo is the province where the Dalai Lama was born so it is shocking that people from his own province can do this to him.
Tibetans are also saying that the Dalai Lama's karma is coming back for what he has been doing and saying. In the past, Dorje Shugden statues were thrown away or destroyed at the behest of the Dalai Lama and his supporters. It seems more and more are openly showing their dislike of the Dalai Lama in Tibet.
In Tibetan Buddhism, there are long life rituals involving effigies of lamas or sponsors being destroyed, to represent the destruction of obstacles to the lama's or sponsor's long life. However, such long life ceremonies are solemn affairs accompanied by ritual instruments, chanting and prayers, ritual music as well as monks in robes.
They are not marked by whoops and cheers of joy from lay people gathered to witness the lama's or sponsor's effigy being so callously thrown into a river.
There is no doubt that the Amdo Tibetans are unhappy with the Dalai Lama and pleased to see his statue being thrown into the river in such an unceremonious manner.
